Hi everyone,
First, some big news…
I’m grateful to have won a drawing for Nintendo Switch 2 Experience.
My flights are booked, and I will be there assuming all goes to plan.
I’ll be able to give hands-on impressions before release, which is really cool!
Stay tuned to this newsletter for that.
Ok, so we know about the Switch 2 Nintendo Direct in April and the hands-on events to follow, but what about in the near term?
Will there be more early 2025 games for the current Switch?
Well, I think we should be on “Nintendo Direct watch,“ as we might get the annoucement of a Switch 1-focused Direct to air in February.
And it’s possible we see this in just a couple of days. Let me explain.
According to Nintendo’s IR calendar, the Nine Month Earnings Release is set for February 4th (tomorrow, as of the time this newsletter will publish).
With 2024 being an anomaly, standard procedure this generation is holding a Nintendo Direct presentation shortly after the Nine Month Earnings Release to investors. For example, in 2023 it was the very next day.
This means we could be getting our February Direct announcement as early as tomorrow. Keep your eye on Nintendo’s social profiles around 10 AM EST tomorrow morning.
Since we’re in this transitional period getting ready for next-gen, it is possible Nintendo’s schedule will deviate from the norm (like it did it 2024), so don’t take this as a guarantee.
But it is exciting to think that we could be watching our final Direct of the Switch era in just a few days!
I wanted to leave you with a few non-Switch 2 games I think we could see in a February Direct.
Metroid Prime 2 + 3 HD collection
Metroid Prime Remastered was shadow dropped during a Direct in February 2023. The Pikmin 1 + 2 collection was shadow dropped during a Direct a few months before the release of Pikmin 4. Getting the previous two Prime games (neither currently available on Switch) before Metroid Prime 4: Beyond lands later this year is absolutely possible.
Mar10 Day Precursor
An out-of-the-box idea, but I think revealing a new 3D All-Stars collection with the remaining 3 games (Super Mario 64 DS, 3D Land, and Galaxy 2) in February and releasing it a month later on Mar10 Day for Mario’s 40th anniversary would be a fun way to celebrate.
Fire Emblem Echoes (FE4 Remake)
We’re due for a Fire Emblem series remake from Intelligent Systems. I’d of course be most excited for a Fire Emblem that was never localized in the West as our next Echoes game. Fire Emblem 4 seems like a great choice to me.
Poochy + Yoshi’s Wooly World
This is a no-brainer Wii U port, and they can also fold in the 3DS-exclusive Poochy content for this re-release. I’m imagining something similar to the recently released Donkey Kong Country Returns HD. Just let me play this game on modern hardware. :)
If you want to hear more of my ramblings about a Switch 1-focused Nintendo Direct this month, check out my newest video below where I talk about these games and many others— anticipating a Nintendo Direct announcement (hopefully) soon.
It’s an exciting time to be a Nintendo fan.
Have a great week!
