5 Nintendo Switch songs I'll remember the year by
With 2023 coming to the close, I wanted to share a few of my favorite Nintendo Switch songs of the year.
Here are 5 songs representative of my year in gaming.
Kitakami Region - Pokemon Scarlet & Pokemon Violet The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero Part 1 - The Teal Mask
If for nothing else, I’ll remember Kitakami’s music. Yes, this got repetitive to hear in-game. But, I don’t mind repetition if it sounds this good. Obviously, in the grand scheme of things, Pokemon music is highly rated, but I don’t hear it getting its flowers nearly enough. You will always hear me continue to praise Go Ichinose and crew.
Sidon’s Theme - The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
The soundtrack from the Breath of the Wild game is my favorite video game soundtrack of all time. Sidon’s Theme is one of my favorite tracks from it. I got up and cheered when I heard this play in Tears of the Kingdom. Of course, I could have chosen “Official Trailer 3” or “Colgera’s Theme” here, but I’ve already talked about those alot.
Encounter Elite - Sea of Stars
I get a warm-and-fuzzy feeling thinking about my few-week obsession with the Sea of Stars game. The combat system and bosses are fantastic. This boss theme brings back those good memories. Composer Eric Brown excels here (and obligatory mention of Yasunori Mitsuda’s guest work and consulting). After hearing the music Sabotage Studio’s previous game, The Messenger, I never doubted the quality of music in Sea of Stars. Ever since completing the game, this has been a mainstay in my playlist.
Overworld - Super Mario Bros. Wonder
The Overworld theme from the Super Mario Bros. Wonder game is contantly stuck in my head. Not only that, but it also reminds me of one of my personal best moments of the year. Hearing this play as I walked the showfloor at Nintendo Live 2023. This is an important Nintendo song that we’ll look back on for many years to come. It’s already nostalgic.
Future Awaits - Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed
Hearing this song reminds me of one thing— the long, ugly cry I had while finishing the Xenoblade Chronicles 3: Future Redeemed game. Truly one of the biggest moments of the year. If you know, you know.
